Suz

Great post Suz. Breaks my heart about their Son...I just could not imagine life after losing a child. They seem like a nice family.....you find movies that I have never heard of before....like you live in a different country.
California is in the US right???
take care, suz

Mental P Mama

Heartbreaking. And that poem is beautiful.

Susan M

Can't wait to see this, I hadn't heard about it. Thanks.

The Glamorous Life

This was painfully facinating.
So tragic. So sad.

I knew about the restaurant days- but I never knew it was in Carpenteria......we would go camping there by the shore in 2003-2006 while living in Walnut Creek. And I adored photographing that whole area.

I will have to watch this movies with my little surfers. Is it okay for kids?

Twenty Four At Heart

How sad ... and what a great poem. I've spent my life in S. Calif too ... including a stint in Santa Barbara for a few years. Used to visit w/friends in Carpinteria a lot. It's such a beautiful part of California.

Marie

Suz, This story shows what a gifted writer you are - Great story and I am sorry to hear about their son. Thank you!

Andrea

Thank you for the beautiful post Suzanne.

Chris

Shaun was my hero back in the day. I still have his autograph that I got back when they were doing the old Katin contests next to the pier, pre-OP Pro. I haven't seen the movie yet but look forward to it.

Amy

They sound like beautiful people. I've never been surfing but when I was younger I wanted to learn :-)

Martha

Great post Suzanne. I really don't have much to add, so thanks for posting it.

Grant forest

Shaun Tomson is a God! This movie was phenomenal.

Debs

Thanks for the recomendation! My husband will love this film, too. Shaun Tomson was a total babe back in the day. I used to have a crush on him when I was a little girl. His hand prints are down in front of Jack's in HB.
That Leonard Cohen song is brilliant! Never thought of it in relation to surfing. I bet that scene rocks!

PJ

I followed the link and then googled Mathew Tomson's name and read what a tragedy his death was. Children believe they're indestructable and it's so sad to see something like this happen. You've written a lovely post today, Suz. I hope his parents get a chance to read it.

Stacey

Great post Suz! That is so sad! They sound like a cool family.

Thanks for the invite to lunch on Friday. I hope you all have fun. I have my daughter's parent/teacher conference though. I'll try to be at the next one though! Keep me posted :)

foolery

This brings back my Maui days -- working with surfers, hanging out with surfers, dancing with surfers. I was never a surfer, but the lifestyle seeps into your pores, you know?

Loved the code. Heartbreaking story. Thanks, Suz.

Maria Hammon

kelly

anonymous

Oh man! You're so cool. This was awesome.

Ducksfan

Surfing is a warrior sport, like hockey. Shaun is a warrior in every way. Thank you for posting this. I will get the movie.

Marisa and Creative Thursday

Thanks Suz! We just moved it up to #2 in our queue. I know I'm going to love this :)
